Skene Square School is situated in a handsome Victorian building, in the Rosemount area close to Aberdeen city centre. There has been a school on this site for over 130 years - so it is well established! The building itself is shared with three other establishments:
Skene Square Breakfast/After School Club, Skene Square Primary Pupil Support Service Aberdeen Environmental Education Centre.
The school benefits enormously from it’s associations with each of these establishments.
The school comprises a three-storey granite building of closed classroom design and includes extensive teaching rooms, provision for two nurseries and ancillary facilities that include dining area and kitchen servery. A separate annexe situated within the school playground houses the gymnasium with original Victorian classrooms above.
The school has an all-weather playground with shelters, picnic tables and benches and play equipment. To the rear of the school we have a football pitch, basketball court and an enclosed area with Playdale equipment reserved for Nursery and P1 pupils. The school playground was recently resurfaced and a ‘safe-play’ surface installed beneath the existing wooden climbing frames.
The school roll is approximately 402 pupils comprising 13 classes from P1-P7 and 4 part-time nursery classes catering for 80 nursery children in total.
The school’s proximity to the Universities, work centres in town, bus routes and its reputation for being an inclusive and safe (i.e. Bully-free) school for children are some of the reasons why so many people decide to enrol their children here.
